Wake to birdsong and mist rising off the Kilunda Lagoon. Ride out across the grounds as gazelles lift their heads to watch you pass. Share a long lunch by the water, then let the sun drop behind the reeds with a cold drink in your hand. These are the unhurried, shared moments that connect you to the land, to the people who care for it, and to each other, an hour from Luanda yet a world away.

Mubanga takes its name from a hardwood tree that grows across Angola’s woodlands, so tough and long-lasting that tools carved from it outlast the people who made them. It roots deep, endures, and gives shelter. That is what we set out to build on the shore of the Kilunda Lagoon at Banza Quitel: a place of wood and water, timber bungalows scattered through gardens where wildlife wanders free, with no concrete corridors and nothing to rush for.
